Tony Escapa Travels the World with TELEFUNKEN

DC7 Mic Pack Featured on Ricky Martin’s “One World Tour”

New York City, October 2016 —

Tony Escapa, a Berklee grad and Grammy Award-winning drummer, relies on his DC7 drum mic pack from TELEFUNKEN for his worldwide touring. “This selection of mics covers all my bases and stays true to my drum sound,” says Escapa, “They pack up in a solid custom suitcase, perfect to stand the pace of the road life.”

Escapa was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, his father a professional pianist and mother a TV Host. At age nine he started guitar lessons, but quickly switched instruments when he spotted a Yamaha drum set that was in the same study studio. He continued his studies with some of the island’s top drummers and percussionists. At age 14, his family moved to Orlando, FL, where he attended high school and continued his music education. For four years, he was a member of the school’s marching and jazz bands.

In 2000, Escapa moved to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music and was chosen to represent the school in Japan, and later as spokesman for the college in his native Puerto Rico. He was also chosen by the Kennedy Center Of Art’s in Washington, DC, to travel to Central and Western Africa to explore the evolution and influence of African music and tradition found in Latin Jazz back home in America.

In 2005, Escapa became Ricky Martin’s touring drummer. With Martin, he has toured extensively around the world, performing at the Winter Olympics in Italy, on Oprah, at the Grammys, and in rock arenas all over the globe. Escapa has also performed and recorded with artists such as Al Di Meola, the Caribbean Jazz Project, David Sanchez, Steve Jenkins, Dana Leong, Claudia Acuña. He was drummer on two Latin Grammy-winning albums by Venezuelan singer/songwriter Franco De Vita.

Escapa’s DC7 mic pack from TELEFUNKEN includes the three unique voices of the company’s TEC Award-winning Dynamic Series microphone line, in combination with two matched small diaphragm FET condensers, and all packaged as the 7-microphone DC7 Drum Pack for drum recording and live performance applications. Each microphone set consists of the M82 for kick drum, the M80-SHB for snare, the M81-SH for toms, and the M60 FET Cardioid mics for cymbals or overheads.
