Supergroup Has New Album and Summer Tour
San Rafael, CA, June, 2009 – Rock supergroup Chickenfoot released their self-titled debut album June 5 and is supporting the project with a North American tour this summer. Recording with a new TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik ELA M 250 microphone, Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen and Montrose) fronts the new group alongside bassist Michael “Mikey” Anthony (ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers). The album was produced in the San Francisco Bay Area by rock recording legend Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones).
“This is the best sounding mic I’ve ever used on my voice,” exclaimed Hagar, “and I’ve used ‘em all.” Andy Johns added, “The ELA M 250 is a gorgeous sounding piece of kit!”
“The large diaphragm TELEFUNKEN tube microphone was originally tested out as a rental for the project,” reports John Cuniberti, who supplied various gear for the album recorded at Hagar’s San Rafael recording studio and at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County. “Sammy and producer Andy Johns were so impressed with the ELA M 250 that Sammy purchased the mic, refusing to return it.”
Chickenfoot first performed in 2008 at a Sammy Hagar concert in Las Vegas. The explosive debut included Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” a classic track which immediately defined the band’s aggressive sound rooted in funk, blues, and roots rock.
Originally produced in 1959 by TELEFUNKEN GmbH of Germany, the new TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik ELA M 250 is a two-pattern (cardioid and omni) version of the famous ELA M 251, and shares the same sonic opulence as this most sought after of vintage tube microphone.
The TELEFUNKEN ELA M 250 comes complete with a new CK12 dual membrane capsule, Swiss wound custom transformer, vintage style power supply, 10 meter Gotham Audio cable, locking leather bound flight case, wooden microphone box, owner manual, and a fully transferable warranty.
