TELEFUNKEN Mics on Vocals, Acoustic Instruments and Drums
South Windsor, CT, November 2016 –
TELEFUNKEN microphones are on Justin Bieber’s “Purpose World Tour” in support of his fourth studio album “Purpose.”
“We’re using Telefunken microphones on all of the live instruments,” explained Bieber’s FOH engineer Ken “Pooch” Van Druten. “We have two different drum kits, one that Justin plays, and we use Telefunken dynamic M82’s for the kick drums, and M80’s on all snares top and bottom, and there are three snare drums in the main drum kit. We use Telefunken condenser M60s on hats and rides. After trying several manufacturers’ capsules we found that the Telefunken M80 was the best capsule for vocals.”
Dylan Rupert of Billboard praised Bieber’s vocals for sounding “smooth as ever,” while noting that the performance of “Company” was “one of the show’s most thrilling moments” and praising the acoustic set.
