Pianist Marco Benevento is somewhat of a musical oddity. He’s both at home on the festival circuit and with the high minded aficionados of the modern jazz scene. As shown by his recently released, critically acclaimed album Tigerface Benevento is never one to box himself into a certain genre.
Telefunken Elektroakustik, Marco Benevento and Indaba Music want you to take the session files to the live recording of “Atari” and create your best mix. It should be dynamic, and stand out. Let’s see what you can do. Visit Indaba Music for details and source files.
On February 23, 2012, Marco Benevento played an electrifying show at the Main Pub in Manchester, CT. Joined by bassist Dave Drewitz (of Ween) and drummer Andy Borger (Norah Jones), Marco performed his unique blend of original circuit-bent piano based instrumentals to a packed room of live music enthusiasts.
The performance was recorded in multi-track format via the venues Allen & Heath console direct into a Pro Tools 003 rack. Every single channel except for the bass and synth DI were tracked using a TELEFUNKEN dynamic series microphone, including the M82 Dynamic (still in its prototype phase) on kick drum and bass guitar cabinet, as well as the M80 Dynamic on snare, piano and overheads, and M81 Universal Dynamic on rack and floor toms.
“Atari” was a song in an ongoing monthly contest co-hosted with Indaba Music. The top ten mixes were determined by popular vote, with the winning mix judged by the artist and TELEFUNKEN’s staff members.
All audio files are presented in .WAV format and were recorded at 24bit / 44.1KHz sample rate. They can be downloaded and imported into your Digital Audio Workstation of choice by downloading and unzipping from the links below:
