On August 15th, 2014, Brooklyn, NY based funk outfit Turkuaz visited TELEFUNKEN Studios for a private in-studio performance.
The entire performance was recorded live via the studio’s API 1608 console and a selection of Neve & LaChapell pre amps. Every single channel was tracked using a TELEFUNKEN microphone into Pro Tools HD, in one take, with no overdubs.
The DD5 Dynamic Drum Pack was employed on the drum set, with the M82 on kick, M80-SH on snare and the M81-SH on toms. Overheads were recorded with a matched pair of AR-51 tube microphones, while the M80 dynamics were utilized for room mics in ORTF. The AR-70 STEREO tube mic was positioned further back in the studio. Bass guitar was tracked direct along side an AK-47mkII on the amplifier. Trumpet, tenor, baritone & electric guitars were recorded with the M81-SH and vocals were tracked with Custom Shop M81’s on female voice, and the M80 on male voice. Leslie organ and the keyboard amp were also mic’ed with the M81. Lastly, the yet-to-be released M60 FET small diaphragm condenser was used on hi-hat.
The multi-track audio files of the original song “Tip Toe Through The Crypto” from this live recording are now available for download.
All the files are clearly labeled in the same format with the source listed first (LEAD VOX, ACOUSTIC, PIANO), followed by the microphone used (M80, M82, etc). All audio files are presented in .WAV format and were recorded at 24bit / 44.1KHz sample rate.
“Tip Toe Through The Crypto” was a song in an ongoing monthly contest co-hosted with Indaba Music. The top ten mixes were determined by popular vote, with the winning mix judged by the artist and TELEFUNKEN’s staff members.
